ESHTE

The Escola Superior de Hotelaria e Turismo do Estoril (ESHTE)/Estoril Higher Institute for Tourism and Hotel Studies, organizer of the 8th edition of the IFM, was created in 1991 by the Law-Decree n.º 374/91, dated 8th October. It is a public polytechnic higher education institution, under the Ministry of Science, Technology and Higher Education.

Its mission focuses on the excellence in teaching and research in the areas of catering, hospitality, leisure, and tourism, through the creation, transmission and dissemination of knowledge and professional practice, in the cultural, artistic, technological, and scientific dimensions, within an international reference framework.

Its training offer in tourism, hospitality and catering is the pillar of its activity, offering a set of undergraduate, master’s and a doctoral degree in association with IGOT-ULisboa, together with the offer of professional training. These aim to provide students with the appropriate learning to become entrepreneurs, creative and innovative educators and leaders, transformers of the national tourism business landscape and able to face future challenges.

In addition to offering graduate and professional training, ESHTE develops scientific, fundamental, and applied research; provides services to the community and tourism companies and promotes the genesis and business sustainability of the tourism sector.

ESHTE is thus a center for higher-level cultural and technical training to prepare professionals who can respond to and face the opportunities and challenges facing the businesses and institutional sector of tourism.

About the location

Estoril and Cascais

Located a few kilometers from Lisbon, Estoril and the neighboring town of Cascais are located on the north coast of Lisbon and have become one of the most cosmopolitan and touristic places in Portugal, from the moment King Luís I chose the bay of the fishing village of Cascais for his summer residence, at the end of the 19th century, certainly for its mild climate, with an average of 260 sunny days per year, and for the scenic beauty of the region.

Nowadays, these towns offer a complete experience for visitors, with beautiful beaches, rich gastronomy, numerous golf courses, hiking trails, water sports, an extensive cultural offer, and a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere.

Close to ESHTE, you can find the Estoril Casino, one of the largest casinos in Europe, the pedestrian promenade that allows access to several beaches and to the town of Cascais, within minutes by a wonderful walk by the sea.

In Cascais you will find a variety of art galleries, museums, and cultural events throughout the year, including the fascinating Museu do Mar (Museum of the Sea), which tells the maritime history of the region, the Casa das Histórias Paula Rego (Paula Rego House of Stories), a space dedicated to the work of the famous Portuguese artist, a varied cultural agenda and numerous restaurants and taverns offering a rich and diverse gastronomy.
